Jeff Opdyke has a book out called Financially Ever After: The Couples Guide To Managing Money. This article is an adaptation of the book and a worthwhile read. The book encourages couples to have philosophy on debt and savings. In this excerpt, Mr. Opdyke goes as far as to define good debt and bad debt, which is an interesting concept. He considers a car loan good debt. While I would love a new car, something just doesn’t feel right to me about a car payment. The book also points out that arguments over debt and money can “hack away” at a marriage.
